Recipe Scaler — Scale Any Recipe Up or Down
~30 seconds
Enter the original and target servings, then list your ingredients with their amounts. The calculator applies the scale factor to every ingredient and shows the adjusted amounts. Units are preserved exactly — no density conversions are invented.
What this calculator determines
It calculates a scale factor from your original and target servings and applies that factor to every ingredient amount while preserving the units you entered.

Examples
Scale 4 servings to 6
4 → 6 servings; 2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 0.5 cup milk
Calculation
- Factor = 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5
- 2 cups flour × 1.5 = 3 cups
- 1 tsp salt × 1.5 = 1.5 tsp
- 0.5 cup milk × 1.5 = 0.75 cup
Factor 1.5× — 3 cups flour, 1.5 tsp salt, 0.75 cup milk
Halve a recipe (8 → 2)
8 → 2 servings; 4 eggs, 1 cup sugar
Calculation
- Factor = 2 ÷ 8 = 0.25
- 4 eggs × 0.25 = 1 egg
- 1 cup sugar × 0.25 = 0.25 cup
Factor 0.25× — 1 egg, 0.25 cup sugar
Assumptions & Conventions
- Linear scaling
- Ingredient amounts are multiplied by the same scale factor: target servings ÷ original servings.
- Units preserved
- Units remain exactly as entered; the calculator does not invent density or weight conversions.
- Seasonings and large baking scales
- Spices and salt may not scale linearly; taste and adjust as needed. Large baking scale factors may require non-linear adjustment for leavening agents and liquids.Source: Existing FAQ
