Commercial Fishing Crew Share Calculator

~1 minute

Calculate vessel and individual crew shares from your trip proceeds, including pre-split expenses and day-rate crew costs.

Crew Share 1 (%)

What this calculator determines

It estimates a crew settlement by deducting entered trip expenses and fixed day-rate crew compensation from gross catch revenue to determine distributable proceeds, applying the vessel percentage and each individual crew-share percentage to those distributable proceeds, and reporting the remaining unallocated proceeds.

Examples

Mixed crew-share vessel (example values only)

$100,000 gross; $10,000 expenses; $300 day-rate; 50% vessel; Crew 12.5%, 8%, 6%

Calculation

  1. Pre-split deductions: $10,000.00 trip expenses + $300.00 day-rate crew = $10,300.00
  2. Distributable proceeds: $100,000.00 − $10,300.00 = $89,700.00
  3. Vessel share (50%): $89,700.00 × 50% = $44,850.00
  4. Crew Share 1 (12.5%): $89,700.00 × 12.5% = $11,212.50
  5. Crew Share 2 (8%): $89,700.00 × 8% = $7,176.00
  6. Crew Share 3 (6%): $89,700.00 × 6% = $5,382.00
  7. Total percentage allocated: 50% + 12.5% + 8% + 6% = 76.5%
  8. Unallocated proceeds: $89,700.00 − $44,850.00 − $11,212.50 − $7,176.00 − $5,382.00 = $21,079.50

Unallocated proceeds: $21,079.50

Smaller vessel, decimal crew share (example values only)

$40,000 gross; $4,000 expenses; $0 day-rate; 60% vessel; Crew 10%, 7.25%

Calculation

  1. Pre-split deductions: $4,000.00 trip expenses + $0.00 day-rate crew = $4,000.00
  2. Distributable proceeds: $40,000.00 − $4,000.00 = $36,000.00
  3. Vessel share (60%): $36,000.00 × 60% = $21,600.00
  4. Crew Share 1 (10%): $36,000.00 × 10% = $3,600.00
  5. Crew Share 2 (7.25%): $36,000.00 × 7.25% = $2,610.00
  6. Total percentage allocated: 60% + 10% + 7.25% = 77.25%
  7. Unallocated proceeds: $36,000.00 − $21,600.00 − $3,600.00 − $2,610.00 = $8,190.00

Unallocated proceeds: $8,190.00

Assumptions & Conventions

Calculation order
Entered trip expenses and fixed day-rate crew compensation are deducted from gross catch revenue first. Vessel and individual percentage crew shares are then calculated from the resulting distributable proceeds.
Individual crew shares
Each Crew Share percentage is applied directly to distributable proceeds. Crew members may have different percentage arrangements.
Vessel share is separate
The vessel/boat percentage is entered separately from individual crew percentages.
Day-rate crew
Day-rate crew compensation is entered as a fixed total dollar amount and is deducted with other pre-split expenses before vessel and percentage crew shares are calculated.
Unallocated proceeds
If the vessel share and entered crew shares total less than 100%, the calculator displays the remaining proceeds rather than automatically assigning them.
Estimate only
Crew-share arrangements differ across fisheries, vessels, ports, and agreements. This calculator estimates the settlement based on the arrangement you enter and is not legal, tax, payroll, accounting, or regulatory advice.
