Examples
Salmon purse seine trip (gross basis)
$23,125 gross; fuel $3,200; ice $450; bait $0; Crew Share 1 = 42% of gross; offloading $220; other $130
Calculation
- Gross catch revenue: $23,125.00
- Non-crew trip expenses: $3,200 + $450 + $0 + $220 + $130 = $4,000.00
- Crew share (42% of gross): $23,125.00 × 42% = $9,712.50
- Total expenses: $4,000.00 + $9,712.50 = $13,712.50
- Net trip proceeds: $23,125.00 − $13,712.50 = $9,412.50
Net trip proceeds: $9,412.50
Halibut longline trip (gross basis)
$18,500 gross; fuel $2,800; ice $380; bait $900; Crew Share 1 = 45% of gross; offloading $185; other $200
Calculation
- Gross catch revenue: $18,500.00
- Non-crew trip expenses: $2,800 + $380 + $900 + $185 + $200 = $4,465.00
- Crew share (45% of gross): $18,500.00 × 45% = $8,325.00
- Total expenses: $4,465.00 + $8,325.00 = $12,790.00
- Net trip proceeds: $18,500.00 − $12,790.00 = $5,710.00
Net trip proceeds: $5,710.00
Assumptions & Conventions
- Expense scope
- Trip expenses include the fuel, ice, bait, offloading/landing fees, gear, food/provisions, and other expenses entered in the calculator.
- Crew share basis
- Crew-share agreements vary. This calculator supports either a percentage of gross catch revenue or a percentage of net proceeds after the entered non-crew trip expenses (fuel, ice, bait, offloading/landing fees, gear, food/provisions, other) and fixed day-rate crew compensation. Choose the basis that matches your vessel's actual agreement.
- Day-rate crew
- Day-rate crew are entered as fixed dollar amounts. They are included in pre-split deductions before percentage-based vessel and crew shares are calculated.
- Vessel share
- The vessel/boat percentage is separate from individual crew percentages and is calculated using the selected Crew share basis.
- Individual crew shares
- Each Crew Share field represents an individual percentage-based crew arrangement. The calculator automatically adds the entered percentages.
- Percentage limit
- Vessel / boat share plus all entered percentage Crew Shares cannot exceed 100%.
- Net Trip Proceeds
- Net Trip Proceeds is the amount remaining after the entered trip expenses, fixed day-rate crew costs, vessel share, and percentage crew compensation. It is not necessarily full accounting profit.
